Medy (Pokwang), a make-up artist, was given the chance of a lifetime to accompany a concert star to the United States for a performance. She promised her family that she will return after a week. However, while in America, she stumbled upon a former classmate Helen (Beth Tamayo) who convinced her to stay for good in the land of milk and honey. She initially refused, but eventually gave in, when she got a call one night from her husband that they need a big amount of money to bring her youngest daughter to the hospital. America has not been the friendliest to her and our story begins with her coming home to Manila literally with nothing.

Medy’s two kids, King (Rayver Cruz) and Queenie (Xyriel Manabat) are now 19 and 7. King struggles with the return of his mother.

Animosity, resentment, shame, and anger are issues he has built with Medy. For the young Queenie, it’s getting to know the mother, who she thought would one day come out of a Balikbayan Box. And as for her husband, Medy discovers something she least expected.

Pokwang, Grateful For ‘Toda Max’

With her countless blessings this year, comedienne Pokwang is very grateful. Besides her bountiful showbiz career, she’s also happy with her family.

It can be recalled that in May, Pokwang showed the public her newly built mansion in Antipolo City. It was also in the same period when she was welcomed as the newest member of “Happy Yipee Yehey!” She is also a proud cast member of “TODA Max,” which is now the country’s no. 1 sitcom.

But behind Pokwang’s jolly personality and innate hilarity is a mother and former overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who went through a lot of challenges like the tragic death of her son.

This side of Pokwang was seen when she portrayed the role of Medy in the movie “A Mother’s Story,” which was produced by “The Filipino Channel.” The story of this film revolves around a make-up artist who decided to illegally stay in the United States to work hard for her ill child. Also starring in this movie is Xyriel Manabat, Rayver Cruz, etc.

“The emotions I have exerted in this film are real, because I know how it feels to be away from your beloved family while working hard abroad,” Pokwang said.

Action Superstar Robin Padilla, Prince of Comedy Vhong Navarro and Angel Locsin, Pokwang’s co-stars in “TODA Max,” expressed their support for the comedienne’s new showbiz stint—as a dramatic actress.

Meanwhile, this New Year’s eve on “TODA Max,” despite being a strict doña, Lady G (Pokwang) still shows care for her family. She will prepare for her foreigner in-laws who will visit her house. That’s why she might not be able to make it to the party that will be mounted by Tol (Robin), Justin (Vhong) and Isabel (Angel). Isabel might not be able to make it also because of demands at work.

The invitees’ uncertainty to attend the party makes Tol sad, as this is for his fellow TADO (Tricycle Association of Drivers and Operators) members, done to dispel allegations that he wants Bruno’s (Jobert Austria) post as the organization’s president.

Will the New Year in Beverly Gil’s still be happy? Catch “TODA Max,” after “Maalaala Mo Kaya” on ABS-CBN. For more updates, logon to http://twitter.com/abscbndotcom.

This coming January 8, 2012 Pokwang will show us that she is not only a good comedian but she is also a good dramatic actress in Star Cinema’s “A Mother’s Story” in the movie she plays as a make-up artist who believes that he own American Dream will be finally realized when she accompanies a concert star to the USA for a performance, only to discover too late that American is not really the friendliest land on the earth contrary to what many Filipinos believe.

Pokwang played as Medy is convinced by Helen played by Beth Tamayo to try her luck in the US and Medy agrees then she going TNT (Tago nang Tago) and later Medy is forced to come home when her husband tells her that he needs a big amount to send their sick daughter to the hospital. Medy comes back empty-handed, finding her home in disarray with her children King (played by Rayver Cruz) and Queenie (played by Xyriel Manabat) having issued against her and worse, her husband guilty of something that Medy never expected.

Pokwang said that she can feel her role I quote “feel na feel ko ang character kong si Medy” we all know she also worked abroad and while she was there she learned that he child had died.

At first Pokwang said in the interviews “I thought I couldn’t forgive myself. My child died without me seeing her. I went aboard to give her a better future at ganoon pa ang nangyari”

While watching the trailer I feel that the transition of Pokwang from being a good comedian to good dramatic actress was superb.

“A Mother’s Story” is a movie about mothers, children, husbands, wives. Its story is universal. One that will surely touch the heart. One that we can all totally relate to. After all, we all have mothers. We are all children.

The cast of the movie are Pokwang,  Rayver Cruz, Xyriel Manabat, Nonie Buencamino, Beth Tamayo, Ana Capri and Daria Ramirez.

A Mother’s Story is directed by John D. Lazatin, story and screenplay by Zenedy Que, produced by TFC (The Filipino Channel) of ABS-CBN and distributed by Star Cinema.

I will be surely watching the movie at the first day of showing.

ABS-CBN will once again prove its supremacy in producing the country’s best comedy programs, as it presents the latest addition to its distinct and unbeatable Kapamilya Comedy.

The premiere of “TODA MAX,” starring Philippines’ hailed “Idol” Robin Padilla, Prince of Comedy Vhong Navarro and Pokwang, marks the much-awaited comeback of classic sitcom which Kapamilya Comedy pioneered.

Robin, the leading man of Kapamilya network’s hit primetime series “Guns and Roses,” expressed his enthusiasm to work with his friend Vhong. In fact, Robin admitted that he specifically requested for Vhong to be casted in the show. “I had my talent fee decreased just to be with him!,” he jokingly said.

Vhong is also excited, as he will once again be reunited with Robin. After their last television tandem in a sitcom in the ‘90s, which paved way to the success of Vhong’s career in the showbiz industry as Robin’s sidekick, the two Kapamilya stars will be working together again in an exciting and refreshing comedy show that will showcase action and light drama simultaneously.

“It’s been a long time, and we really miss working with each other. Also, doing a sitcom somehow reinvents me. I’m now so used to soap operas and variety shows. It’s refreshing to be back in a sitcom. Kapamilya comedy will make a grand comeback via this show,” Vhong shared.

Together with “Happy Yipee Yehey!” host, Pokwang, “TODA MAX” will be crazy, packed with funny antics yet values-enriched.

“TODA MAX” trails the story of a hillbilly named Tol (Robin) whose journey begins when his wife died and decided to take on a new path in Manila. Together with his two children Sandy and Ron-Ron, Tol finds himself living with his cousin Justin Bibbo (Vhong). Justin is an aspiring chef who dreams to become well-known, despite his poverty-ridden life as a carinderia owner.

Regardless of their opposite characters—Tol being firm, serious and brave and Justin is funny, playful and organized—they both did not let challenges interfere and struggle to help each other in raising Sandy and Ron-ron in an unconventional family setting.

Pokwang’s role as Lady G, a poor girl turned-millionaire, on the other hand, will challenge Justin’s life but will soon change, as she meets Tol and became attracted to him.

“TODA MAX” is a light and funny family oriented show that will surely make the viewers laugh their hearts out. Follow the story of Tol and Justin and how they will handle the different trials in life.

“Our exciting laugh trip is all set. So, I’m inviting everyone to catch the comeback of family-oriented sitcom on TV. You’ll really learn a lot from it,” Robin said.

Also starring in the sitcom are Izzy Canillo, Aaliyah Benisano, Jobert Austria, and Darwin Tolentino. “TODA MAX” is under the business unit of Raymund Dizon, together with production manager Cynthia Jordan, creative manager Rhandy Reyes and executive producer Rocky Ubana.
