Symposium on Youth Volunteering & HIV/AIDS Prevention
November 24th, 2008
The Symposium is a platform for youth-volunteer information sharing and to gain a deeper understanding about HIV/AIDS and prevention. Ultimately, it aims to promote and to raise the profile of volunteerism in the country’s development and peace-building processes. Created by the General Assembly in 1971, UNV, the focal point for promoting youth volunteerism, has mobilized over 7,000 highly skilled volunteers worldwide and contributed to development initiatives in 140 countries. Currently, 7 national and international UNV Volunteers are serving in the Philippines and nearly 300 Filipinos serve as UNV Volunteers abroad, making the Philippines one of the largest UNV programme contributors.
